Cuando "Shelby Singleton" escucho a Jimmy Ellis (Orion), no lo podia creer, sonaba casi como el Rey ya fallecido por aquella fecha, sin embargo Orion no se comformo con eso, sino que ademas de cantar principalmente en bares, tabernas y demas, se enfoco en cantar temas del Rey, fue asi como logro un jugoso contrato con la "Sun Records".

Orion fue conocido internacionalmente por su talento, versatilidad y dinámica sobre el escenario. Ha aparecido con Loretta Lynn, Jerry Lee Lewis, Tammy Wynette, Carl Perkins, Charlie Rich, Johnny Cash, Ricky Skaggs, Lee Greenwood, Gary Morris, el Oak Ridge Boys y muchos otros contando además con el respaldo de los Jordanaires.
Jimmy utilizó diferentes nombres durante su carrera para tratar de romper la conexión entre él y la voz de Elvis Presley - nombres como Orion (Eckley Darnell), James Ellis, Steven Silver, y otros. Estos intentos fueron inútiles porque la voz fue su voz, no importa qué etiqueta se puso sobre ella.

El mito de Orion proviene de un héroe de literario, quien siendo una superestrella finge su propia muerte para poder retomar sus raices musicales.
